WIP Wednesday!!

It's been a while since I've posted on WIP (work-in-progress) Wednesday!
*
I don't know why this picture would only load sideways?? It a super soft blanket for a friend who is due with a baby boy in about a month! I made it with this inexpensive cotton boucle yarn from Knit Picks, called Crayon, and I LOVE it! I was a little apprehensive about ordering cheap yarn without seeing and feeling it first, but it's what the original pattern called for. I love working with the yarn and I'm going to be ordering more!

Kylan told me he wanted to give Everest a knit snake for his 2nd birthday (in June). The finished snake I knit a couple years ago for Kylan:)

I finished Kylans sweater vest, he loves it! He wore it today and kept telling people 'look at my sweater vest, my mommy made it" it was too cute!!!

So that's it for now. I've been dreaming of getting my sewing machine out, but I don't have a great place to set it up & that makes it easy to keep dreaming about...

little sweater vest

I am lovin this pattern! It was fairly quick and easy and I really like how it turned out! I used an organic wool, baby alpaca, silk blend, so it is supper soft. Everest loves it but refused to put a long sleeve shirt on first:) I am about half done with Kylans vest too:)
I found the buttons at a local antique store, I used three different style buttons all made from wood.

I used this pattern-

gifts from etsy

This year I bought the boys a few special gifts from etsy. There are soooo many beautiful handmade toys, it was hard to decide which to get!! These are from Green Mountain Wee Woolies a lovely shop with unique handmade gifts at great prices (in my opinion at least). We have veered away from plastic toys, except for outside toys, and try to get 'natural' toys and more open ended things. I LOVE what we picked out and the boys seem to really enjoy them!

Kylan got a wooden toy barn for his birthday, so the pigs and chickens are a good addition!

sweater of my dreams...

I just read the story of Yuri's New Sweater on Farmama's Blog, check it out! I don't even know how to spin wool yet, but someday I dream of sheering, processing, spinning, dying and knitting a sweater. It's odd, I have these deep urges to do such things, I don't always understand why, but it just seems amazing to me...

WIP Wednesday!!

It's Work-in-progress Wednesday!
I have some catching up to do, since I haven't posted WIP for the last few weeks-
This first picture is of the sweater vest I was working on when I went out of town. I eventually decided I didn't like the way the yarn looked and tore it out. Something about the sheen of the yarn or something, so I need to find a replacement so I can start over. It's cold outside!

I started some lil socks with this beautiful self-striping yarn. I LOVE the colors and want socks for myself made out of this!!!

And then there are bonnets... I love making these 'Lyra Caps', multiple strands of big fat yarn and big needles make for a very quick project! Kylan really wants one, he picked out brown and orange for his... they are pretty girly, but he's 4, he can get away with it:)

I also made a couple pair of super soft fleece pants for Everest and my cousins little girl. I've had scraps of this fabric for a long time and once made a blanket out of it. Sewing with little ones around is challenging, but I'm hoping to try more often. These pants were so easy and quick to make, and K has a long list of requests!

Christmas is on it's way and I better get knittin'....
Have a beautiful day:)

beeswax candles

\
I've been wanting to make beeswax candles, I thought it would be a nice fall time project to do with Kylan. Power outages are not unusual in the forest we live in and one can never have too many candles! I had trouble finding beeswax sheets at any of the local craft stores, so I ordered a little candle making kit from A Toy Garden.(and I got them 2 days after I ordered them!!) It was perfect and Kylan had a lot of fun helping me roll beeswax candles. He did really well with it! I didn't think he would actually be able to do, I just figured I would give him a sheet or two to play with while I rolled them, but no, he listened and rolled them very gently and did great. Everest played with some scrap pieces of wax. He kept asking me 'apple?' which is his way of asking if he can eat something:)

Kylan was very proud of his candles and couldn't wait to show daddy!

inspiration

Check out this quilt at Soule Mama! Wow! It really makes me dream of quilting some day! My Nana, great grandma, and great-great grandma where/are all quilters! I still need to learn to cut straight, but I can dream-

Looking at crafty mamas blogs has been really inspiring for me! If you look in my profile at the 'blogs I follow' you'll see some of my favorites!
